Made by BSA as a commercial gun and then taken into the War Department and upgraded, almost certainly at the beginning of the Great War when there was a huge shortage of rifles. Subsquently sold to Fultons of Bisley, and then held by a private owner in manningtree (whose name appears on the bottom of the trigger guard).Wood is bruised as is to be expected with the age of this rifle, however metalwork, and particularly the receiver, is very good. Lee Enfield .303 rifle. This Enfield was made at LSA in 1901 as a Mk1* and bears the Edward VII Crown. The magazine is the correct type but has a later spring and platform. Present is the bolt cover which were normally lost or thrown away. The woodwork is unusually good considering its age, there is the odd bruising but nothing serious. There is some light pitting around the muzzle and on the right side of the butt socket. The action can be cycled and dry fired.
